Every year, right around Christmas Eve the same thought pops into my mind:
“Why do we only have ‘resolutions’ once a year? And why is it that we think everything will change when we enter the new year?”
Other than celestial bodies making their rounds, nothing will change unless we will them to change. Naively, generations of people have set out on New Year’s resolutions all of which tend to fail within the second month.
Creating goal in the future without a system, or priorities or even a plan is destined to fail. Why? Because when you fall short of your goal, there is no recourse to get back on track, there is no prioritization of your habits and there is no game plan to measure progress.
That goal suddenly becomes a wish. It’s delusional.
Escape this trap by crafting your own system.
Polymath Rumination is a systematic approach to the new year.
Instead of “wishes”, create priorities with key performance indicators.
Instead of “failure”, create systematic recourse actions.
Instead of returning to bad habits, learn to meet those needs in healthier ways.
Take this year by the horns.
Best,
